Argentina's power sector faces consumer lawsuit and new transmission line priority dispute

Provincial deputy Gabriela Rodríguez (UCR) announced she will file a judicial amparo against the electricity distributor Edelar over steep bill increases in La Rioja. She cited complaints that families received invoices ranging from 400,000 to 800,000 pesos despite unchanged consumption, urging the courts to suspend the hikes and demand transparency on billing methods.

In a separate development, José Morea, Country Director of Vicuña, said the ENREGE regulator approved Vicuña’s priority access to 90% of the new capacity on a planned 500 kV transmission line. He emphasized that existing infrastructure will not be altered – “Lo que ya existe no se toca” – and that any unused capacity will be available to other users. Both events highlight ongoing regulatory tensions in Argentina’s electricity market.
