Argentina's President Milei pitches unregulated AI hub and new corporate legal framework

President Javier Milei announced that Argentina will create a special legal regime to foster artificial‑intelligence development, keeping the sector largely unregulated. In an opinion piece for the Financial Times he urged global tech firms to set up operations in Buenos Aires, likening the initiative to the Dutch East India Company’s role in the industrial revolution.

Milei’s plan includes a new corporate category – the “non‑human corporation” – for companies run by AI agents or robots, and promises low corporate taxes to attract investment. He invited technology companies worldwide to locate in Argentina, noting recent talks with U.S. investor Peter Thiel. Critics caution that the lack of comprehensive data‑protection, transparency and liability rules could pose risks.

The proposal positions AI as a central pillar of Milei’s strategy to diversify the Argentine economy and draw foreign capital, while emphasizing minimal regulatory intervention.
