Argentina's Province Clarifies Child Adoption Procedures
The Provincial Directorate General of Childhood and Adolescence reaffirmed the legal framework governing family containment and child adoption in Argentina. Officials explained that the Programa de Familias de Contención provides temporary care for children who must be separated from their families, aiming to protect their rights while working toward reunification or, when impossible, legal adoption.
The agency emphasized that participants in the family containment program cannot adopt children under their care, citing incompatibility under article 600 of the Civil Code and the requirement to register prospective adoptive parents through the Registro Único de Aspirantes a Guarda con Fines Adoptivos (RUA). All actions are said to adhere to the best interests of children, adolescents, and the oversight of competent judicial authorities.
