Argentina's provincial Ministry of Production steps up trichinosis prevention

The Ministry of Production of an Argentine province, through its Directorate of Livestock, has intensified awareness and sanitary control actions to prevent trichinosis, a zoonotic disease caused by the parasite *Trichinella spiralis*. The agency urges producers and consumers to purchase meat only from authorized establishments, verify its origin, avoid homemade products of unknown source, and ensure proper laboratory testing of meat from family‑run slaughterhouses.

It also stresses that cooking meat to above 70 °C eliminates the parasite, whereas salting, refrigeration or domestic freezing are ineffective. Additional measures include maintaining good practices in pig farms, controlling rodent presence, prohibiting feeding animals urban waste, and adhering to existing sanitary regulations. Director of Livestock Francisco Ríos said, “Prevention is a shared responsibility. We continue to reinforce controls and awareness, protecting both public health and the province’s pork production.” Symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, digestive disorders or eyelid swelling should prompt immediate medical attention.
