Argentina's provincial transport woes spur calls for fare updates and service fixes

Senator Natalia Quintana of Buenos Aires province warned that outdated school‑bus tariffs are endangering transport for thousands of rural students. She said provincial payments have not kept pace with rising fuel, insurance, parts and maintenance costs, causing many small providers to drop routes and leaving dozens of students without school access. Quintana urged the province to raise fares or provide direct subsidies to families to preserve essential education links.

In the north of Neuquén, families have rallied against the deteriorating interprovincial bus line that connects the region with San Rafael. Passengers report trips without heating, exposure to the elements, and frequent transfers on a route that serves as the sole long‑distance link for many towns. A petition with more than 2,000 signatures has been presented to local authorities, demanding coordinated action from Neuquén and Mendoza officials to secure safe and reliable service.

Both incidents highlight growing transport challenges in Argentina’s remote areas, affecting students and commuters and prompting calls for government intervention.
