Argentina's Regional Hospitals Conduct First Complex Trauma Surgeries

The Hospital Distrital de Las Lomitas performed its first trauma surgery on 7 August, successfully treating a 54‑year‑old woman from Laguna Yema for a bimaleolar ankle fracture. The procedure, an open reduction and internal fixation, was carried out without complications and was fully covered by the provincial public health system, including postoperative rehabilitation.

A week later, the Hospital Urquiza also achieved a milestone by completing its first thoracic reconstruction surgery. The operation, led by hospital director Rafael Vales with specialist Germán Gallicet and resident Rodrigo Werning, repaired a severe chest trauma using custom‑made implants. The patient had initially been stabilized at the San Benjamín Hospital in Colón and transferred with support from the National Institute of Social Services for Retirees and Pensioners (PAMI). Recovery continues under hospital follow‑up.
