Argentina's retail sales plunge in Córdoba amid broader economic slowdown

Retail commerce in Córdoba fell sharply in July 2026, with unit sales down 14% year‑on‑year and profitability slipping 12% according to the local Chamber of Commerce. The average ticket fell to $135.12, well below June’s $150.90, and only 10% of merchants said they met their sales forecasts.

At the national level, Argentina’s Composite Coincident Index of Economic Activity (ICA‑ARG) recorded a 0.1% monthly decline in June, marking a second consecutive month of contraction. Agricultural output rose 4.1% month‑on‑month, driven by soy and corn harvests, while retail sales showed a modest 0.5% monthly gain but remained 2.2% below June 2025 levels. Industrial production fell 0.5% and construction activity dropped 3.6%. Government tax revenue decreased 2.3% from May and was 4.9% lower than a year earlier.
