Argentina's RIGI investment regime faces calls for audits and long-term policy stability

Experts are analyzing the Régimen de Incentivo para Grandes Inversiones (RIGI) in Argentina, a framework designed to attract large-scale capital projects. During a discussion hosted by +Perfil, economist Jorge Lapeña emphasized the need for a post-implementation audit to determine if the state incentives provided were truly necessary to secure investments that might not have occurred otherwise.

Lapeña also advocated for long-term energy policies that transcend political cycles, specifically mentioning the importance of maintaining nuclear energy and improving energy infrastructure. He noted that the current government's approach to the state's role is a critical factor in these long-term strategic decisions.

Regarding the political stability of the regime, Luis Bolomo suggested that modifying the RIGI through Congress would be difficult, noting that the level of voting required for such changes is currently unlikely to be achieved. Additionally, the debate includes the role of local suppliers, with experts suggesting that while local participation is positive, it must not disproportionately increase project costs.
