Argentina's Ruta 40 reopened partially after landslide in Neuquén
A mud, tree and rock landslide on National Route 40 near kilometre 2208.7, about three kilometres from San Martín de los Andes in Neuquén Province, blocked the highway on Thursday. Multiple agencies—including Vialidad Nacional, the municipal civil protection office, the National Gendarmerie, provincial police and the National Parks Administration—worked through the night to clear debris and establish a temporary lane for emergency vehicles.
The road was partially reopened on Friday, 31 July, with traffic allowed from 17:00 to 22:00 under police assistance. On Saturday, 1 August and Sunday, 2 August, the corridor will be open from 08:00 to 22:00. Authorities will keep monitoring the area because weather alerts for precipitation remain in force and the risk of further slides persists. Drivers are urged to use snow chains, respect speed limits and follow instructions from road personnel.
