Argentina rolls out forest fire prevention, wood reuse and climate monitoring plans
Governor Claudio Poggi of San Luis province presented progress on a forest‑fire prevention plan funded by the FAO and the Green Climate Fund, allocating about US$1 million to protect 177,800 ha of native forest in the Sierras Centrales.
In Patagonia, the Cosertec cooperative and the Union of Workers of the Land (UTT Patagonia) are developing a project to convert burned pine wood from recent wildfires into OSB and laminated panels for construction, with part of the revenue earmarked for reforestation of native species.
In Santiago del Estero, the National University of Santiago del Estero and CONICET installed a new long‑term monitoring station as part of the Red Bosque‑Clima network, joining 28 stations nationwide to study forest resilience and response to climate change.
