Health authorities in Santa Fe Province, Argentina, highlighted the growing suicide crisis in the Americas, noting that about 800,000 people die by suicide worldwide each year and a death occurs every 40 seconds. Specialists from the Pan‑American Health Organization and local officials emphasized the need for open dialogue, active listening, and accompaniment for those at risk. They reported that suicide rates in the region have risen by roughly 18 % over the past two decades, with young people especially vulnerable.

The event called on families, schools, media and community groups to help break stigma and to respond promptly to warning signs. In emergencies, the province’s 107 mental‑health crisis line, staffed by specialized teams, can be contacted for immediate assistance. Organizers stressed that talking about suicide does not increase risk, but can enable individuals to seek help and potentially save lives.
