Argentina secondary school completion reaches 75% amid persistent inequality
A 2024 report by Argentinos por la Educación and FLACSO shows that 74.6% of Argentine youths aged 19‑24 have completed secondary school, up from 61.9% in 2014 – a rise of 12.7 percentage points. The country ranks fifth in Latin America, behind Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Colombia.
The data reveal stark socioeconomic gaps: 92% of young people in the highest income quintile finish secondary compared with about 60% in the lowest quintile, a difference of roughly 32 points. Women out‑perform men, with 78.8% completion versus 70.6% for men.
A separate University of Buenos Aires (UBA) study finds that 48.9% of Argentine youths (around 4.1 million) live in vulnerable conditions. Among this group, 60.5% have not completed secondary education, yet 85.7% believe that studying would improve their quality of life. The research also highlights the “Triple‑Ni” phenomenon—young people who neither work, study nor seek employment—affecting a significant share of the vulnerable cohort.
