Argentina's Senate weighs judicial appointments and court reform amid candidate controversy

Argentina's Senate scheduled a Thursday session to consider nearly 70 judicial appointments, including judges, prosecutors and public defenders. The agenda became contentious after Interior Minister Patricia Bullrich protested the executive's attempt to withdraw the nomination of María Verónica Michelli, a candidate whose family ties raised political concerns. Constitutional experts argued that once the executive submits a list, it cannot be retracted without violating the constitution.

In the same legislative meeting, senators also introduced a proposal to restructure the Federal Court of Appeals in Tucumán. The bill would split the court into two chambers and add a sixth magistrate, aiming to accelerate case handling and improve the efficiency of the federal judiciary in the northern province.
