Argentina's social cuts leave families homeless in Salta and Neuquén

In Salta province, 32 families of former Terminal Pacheco S.A. workers were left homeless after a voluntary retirement scheme promised by municipal mayor Emiliano Durand failed to include job security. The workers, represented by delegate Sebastián Sánchez, claim they were misled into early retirement with the expectation of re‑employment by the new concessionaire, a promise that was not honored. Many of the affected employees are over 40, some with disabilities, and now face severe economic hardship.

In Neuquén province, the suspension of the national "Volver al Trabajo" program has impacted roughly 8,600 workers in community kitchens and cooperatives, cutting off benefits of about $78,000 each and removing an estimated 700 million pesos from the local circular economy. Soledad Urrutia of the Confederación de Trabajadores de la Economía Popular warned of food shortages, risk of evictions, and called on the provincial government to intervene and guarantee dignified remuneration for the sector.
