Argentina's teachers and state workers unions demand pay raises and purge of nepotistic hires

The Association of Education Workers of Chaco (ATECH) announced a province‑wide mobilization for 8 July, urging teachers and retirees to protest what it describes as a “asphyxiating” loss of purchasing power. The union says salaries have fallen more than 35 % in real terms, that the provincial government has eliminated the inflation‑adjustment clause, and that cuts to the provincial health‑insurance scheme are harming members.

Separately, the Association of State Workers (ATE) called on the national government to dismiss the 249 relatives, friends and allies hired by former chief of staff Manuel Adorni, accusing them of receiving million‑peso salaries without qualifications. ATE leader Rodolfo Aguiar said the appointments constitute widespread nepotism and illegal patronage within the administration.

Both unions are organising protests to pressure authorities for salary adjustments and to end perceived patronage and mismanagement.
