Spain to create 700 new judicial posts by 2027, says Minister Félix Bolaños

The Spanish Ministry of Justice announced that 500 new judge positions and 200 new prosecutor positions will be created for 2027, bringing the total of newly created posts to 700 – the largest increase in the country's history. The plan is part of the Efficiency Law and is accompanied by digital‑judicial reforms, including interoperable case‑management systems and the "Carpeta Justicia" portal, now active in most regions.

In the Valencian Community, the regional justice minister Nuria Martínez warned that the central government's cut of 18 judicial reinforcements – a quarter of the 72 nationwide reductions – will leave about 5,520 cases pending, calling the decision an “aggravation” of the autonomy's workload.

The Superior Court of Justice of the Valencia region also requested more than 40 additional judges for the province of Alicante to ease overcrowded courts.

In Argentina, courts in Santa Fe and Tierra del Fuego opened new competitions for senior judicial and administrative posts, and a reform led by Judge Ernesto Löffler aims to introduce objective, merit‑based criteria to reduce discretion in judge selection.
