Argentina's Treasury to absorb IOSFA debt amid healthcare restructuring

Argentina's Ministry of Security has announced that the National Treasury will assume the debts of the Institute of Social Works for the Armed Forces and Security (IOSFA) as part of a plan to definitively dissolve the entity. The Ministry of Economy has mandated this arrangement, with officials describing the obligation as a debt "of the State with the State."

While some estimates place the total debt at 241 billion pesos, with 160 billion attributed to security forces, Ministry officials have stated that exact figures are currently unavailable.

In line with Decree 88/2026, the government is transitioning to the Social Work of the Federal Security Forces (OSFFESEG). Currently, services are being provided through the healthcare provider Medicus for 197,000 members of the Argentine Naval Prefecture and the National Gendarmerie. The Ministry plans to eventually expand this coverage to include the Federal Police (PFA), the Airport Security Police (PSA), and the Federal Penitentiary Service (SPF).
