Argentina's UEJN unions protest pension reform and launch strike over salaries

The Unión de Empleados de la Justicia de la Nación (UEJN) Seccional Entre Ríos will appear before the provincial Senate on 11 June to oppose the executive‑backed pension reform. The union warned that the bill would expand the remuneration period used to calculate retirement benefits from ten to twenty years, cut initial pension amounts and erase the historic 82 % mobility guarantee. UEJN said the changes would “destroy historic achievements” and could trigger widespread litigation.

At the same time, UEJN Seccional Tierra del Fuego announced a 48‑hour work stoppage for 11‑12 June after a meeting with the Superior Tribunal de Justicia failed to resolve its demand for salary adjustments. The union condemned the lack of progress on June‑month wage updates, stating “the workers cannot become the variable of adjustment,” and highlighted broader labor concerns such as promotions, interim positions and functional bonuses.

Both actions reflect growing discontent among judicial employees with provincial reforms that they say jeopardize earned rights and wage adequacy.
