Argentina's universities protest Milei over university financing law

Public universities in Argentina staged a new street protest demanding President Javier Milei and Economy Minister Luis Caputo implement the University Financing Law (Law No. 27.795). Teachers, students and university officials organized open classes in front of the Palace of Justice, urging the Supreme Court to enforce the law that Congress approved with a two‑thirds majority after Milei attempted to veto it. Protesters highlighted the government's fiscal tightening that they say threatens salaries, scholarships and research, and called for an urgent judicial response.

The National Inter‑University Council has submitted a filing to the Supreme Court, which is expected to issue a definitive ruling on whether the executive must comply with the financing law.
