Argentina's Vaca Muerta Oil Sur pipeline 70% complete, exports slated for 2026

The Vaca Muerta Oil Sur (VMOS) pipeline project in Argentina has passed the 70% construction milestone. Developed by a consortium that includes YPF, Vista, Pan American Energy, Pampa Energía, Chevron, Pluspetrol, Shell and Tecpetrol, the $3 billion oil‑transport system will link the Neuquén shale basin with a new maritime terminal at Punta Colorada in Río Negro.

First crude exports are expected between late 2026 and early 2027, initially moving 180,000 barrels per day. Capacity is projected to rise to 550,000 barrels per day by the third quarter of 2027 and reach 700,000 barrels per day in 2028. YPF’s strategy manager Maia Goldin said the project could generate around $15 billion in export revenues annually by 2030, with potential to exceed $20 billion in later years, representing a major boost to the Argentine economy.
