Argentina winter tourism up 5.9% in 2026, generating $2.12 trillion impact
Argentina’s Confederación Argentina de la Mediana Empresa (CAME) reported that 4.6 million tourists travelled during the 2026 winter vacation, a 5.9 % rise over 2025. The season generated an economic impact of 2.12 trillion Argentine pesos (about US$1.41 billion). Tourists stayed an average of four days and spent $115 per person each day; however, real daily spending fell 5.6 % compared with the previous year. About 400 000 of the visitors were foreign tourists, helping to offset weaker domestic demand caused by the World Cup and tighter household budgets.
Mountain destinations performed best. Bariloche led with hotel occupancy close to 85 %, followed by Ushuaia, San Martín de los Andes, Villa La Angostura, Esquel and Malargüe. Regions such as Mendoza, Córdoba, Salta, Jujuy, Tucumán, La Rioja and Catamarca also posted strong results. By contrast, the Atlantic coast and much of Buenos Aires province recorded one of the weakest winter seasons in recent years, with low hotel occupancy and a shift of spending toward international travel to follow the national football team.
Overall, the data show a mixed recovery: higher traveller numbers but lower real per‑capita spending, and a regional split between thriving mountain hubs and a struggling Buenos Aires hinterland.
