Argentina's World Cup trip to US sees fans detained in Dallas and Messi laughs at teammate's spark lighter

Four Argentine supporters were arrested in Dallas on Saturday after trying to enter the stadium without tickets for the World Cup match in which Argentina beat Jordan 3‑1. The individuals – Leandro Ayala, Juan Ignacio Campoamor, Gerardo Nielsen and Federico Llach – were identified through facial‑recognition checks and faced criminal trespass charges, visa cancellations and possible deportation. They have also been added to Argentina’s Tribuna Segura security list. The operation involved Dallas police, U.S. federal agents and Argentine officials, and authorities said they will tighten stadium controls for the upcoming match in Miami.

In a separate incident at Kansas City airport, defender Cristian “Cuti” Romero’s checked luggage was opened after a spark‑lighter was found inside. The device was intended to light palo santo incense, a ritual shared by Messi, Lisandro Martínez and Nahuel Molina. Airport security confiscated the lighter as a prohibited incendiary item, prompting Lionel Messi’s laughter that quickly went viral on social media.
