Argentina study finds nearly half of youth in social vulnerability FAST-MOVING
A University of Buenos Aires (UBA) study of 1,002 young people ages 18‑29, conducted between December 2025 and January 2026, found that 48.9% (about 4.1 million) of Argentine youth live in social vulnerability. Vulnerability includes economic poverty or incomplete basic education.
Among the vulnerable, 57% say earnings do not cover expenses and only 24.8% continue studying. Two‑in‑ten neither study nor work, while 30% are unemployed. A “Triple Ni” segment – roughly one‑third of the vulnerable – neither studies, works nor seeks employment. Seventy‑three percent of those in poverty reside outside the Greater Buenos Aires area.
Seventy percent have some form of employment, but only 15% hold a registered job; most work informally in commerce, construction, caretaking or self‑employment. Seventy‑eight percent lack private health insurance or social‑security coverage, and 40% live in neighborhoods they consider unsafe. Over 70% report frequent anxiety, more than half report depression or apathy, and about 30% struggle to control alcohol or drug use.
