Argentine Air Force tests RBS 70 NG anti-aircraft missiles
The Argentine Air Force successfully conducted operational tests of the Swedish-made RBS 70 NG anti-aircraft missile system during the ‘Santa Barbara’ exercise. The drills took place at the Self-Propelled Projectile Exploration and Launch Center II (CELPA II) in Mar del Plata as part of the ‘Aquiles 2026’ training plan.
The exercise involved the deployment, operation, and withdrawal of anti-aircraft assets, including the participation of the 1st Anti-Aircraft Defense Group and its four operational squadrons. To simulate real combat environments, the force utilized EMB-312 Tucano aircraft and Tehuelche 320C unmanned aerial systems carrying decoys as moving targets. The tests demonstrated a 95% effectiveness rate in hitting targets.
The maneuver was a joint effort involving personnel from the Argentine Army and the Argentine Navy to ensure synergy between defense systems. Officials noted that this successful missile launch represents a significant step in recovering the nation's ground-to-air missile capabilities and securing strategic military installations.
