Argentine Army begins Himalayan expedition to Mount Kamet

The Argentine Army has launched a high-altitude expedition to Mount Kamet in the Indian Himalayas. The mission, which began on August 19 and is scheduled to conclude on October 7, is part of an operational training exchange program with the Indian Army.

A ten-member patrol of mountain troops, led by Colonel Bernardo Ariel Cecchini, is undertaking the ascent of the 7,756-meter peak. This mission marks the second consecutive expedition by the Argentine Army to the Himalayan range, following a previous ascent of Mount Kun in 2025.

The expedition involves a rigorous 50-day process including terrestrial approach from Delhi, acclimatization, and progressive occupation of camps ranging from 4,700 to 7,050 meters before the final summit attempt. The personnel were selected through intensive physical, technical, and psychological evaluations, including training in rock and ice climbing, survival, and mountain medicine.
