Argentine Army completes Himalayan expedition with Indian Army
The Argentine Army, led by Ramiro Antoñana, has completed a high-altitude mountaineering expedition in the Himalayas in collaboration with the Indian Army. This mission follows a previous 2025 expedition to Mount Kun.
The primary objective of this mission was to reach Mount Kamet, which stands at 7,756 meters in the western sector of the Himalayas. To prepare for the extreme conditions, the team conducted winter training in the Andes Mountains with temperatures reaching 20 degrees Celsius below zero, including high-altitude training at Cerro Rincón.
The patrol consisted of nine mountaineers and an expedition leader. After arriving in New Delhi on August 21 and reaching the base camp on August 30, the team spent nearly a month undergoing acclimatization and ascent preparations. The operation involved over 80 cargo transfers between camps to sustain the remote deployment. Due to significant crevasses discovered on the glacier leading to the final route of Kamet, the team had to modify their initial planning and implement additional safety measures.
