Lali Espósito uses San Sebastián Film Festival to advocate for Malvinas sovereignty

Argentine singer and actress Lali Espósito has drawn international attention at the San Sebastián International Film Festival for wearing a white t-shirt with the slogan ‘Las Malvinas son argentinas’. The artist, who is in Spain to present the film ‘Glaxo’ directed by Benjamín Naishtat, stated that she chose to use her international visibility to advocate for Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands.

Espósito explained that the gesture also serves a charitable purpose, as proceeds from the sale of the garment are intended for the Union of Ex-Combatants of the Malvinas Islands in Tigre. She criticized the current Argentine national government, claiming that veterans have been ‘mistreated’ by the administration and noting recent unexpected shifts in government discourse regarding sovereignty.

Other Argentine actresses, including Mercedes Morán and Dolores Fonzi, also participated in the symbolic gesture during the premiere of ‘Mis muertos tristes’, wearing kimonos featuring the same Malvinas imagery. The film, directed by Pablo Larraín and based on the works of Mariana Enríquez, is also part of the festival's official competition.
