Argentine authorities address disability emergency and environmental risks

The Argentine Chamber of Deputies has approved a project to replace the Disability Emergency law, which is set to expire at the end of the year. The measure, passed with a two-thirds majority, maintains non-contributory disability pensions, ensures inflation-based updates, and preserves the universal nomenclature of benefits and unified fees. The approval followed negotiations where the ruling party accepted several opposition amendments, securing support from various blocs including Peronism, PRO, and the UCR.

In a separate legal development, a federal judge in San Nicolás has ordered the Municipality of San Pedro to implement urgent contingency measures to control a 20-hectare open-air landfill in the La Tosquera neighborhood. The ruling follows a criminal investigation into potential environmental contamination and public health risks. The municipality has been given 90 days to execute a contingency plan and 60 days to present an integrated solid urban waste management program.
