Argentine authorities thwart school shooting plot after FBI alert
Authorities in Quilmes, Argentina, intervened in a plot by a 15-year-old adolescent to carry out a school shooting. The investigation was triggered by an alert from the FBI Legal Attaché at the United States Embassy in Argentina, who identified a user linked to messages regarding a potential attack.
Investigations revealed that the teenager used ChatGPT to discuss the massacre, expressing intentions to kill classmates. While the plan was initially aimed for 2027, the individual also considered moving the date forward. The conversations included inquiries about acquiring specific clothing and tactical materials for the attack.
The Argentine Federal Police's Anti-Terrorism Investigation Unit conducted digital tasks and field operations to identify the suspect. Following a court order, agents raided the teenager's home, seizing two cell phones, tactical gloves, and camouflage gear. The case is currently under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Criminal Responsibility Prosecutor's Office No. 1 of Quilmes.
