Argentina Chamber of Deputies to debate Central Bank and tax reforms
The Argentine Chamber of Deputies is set to resume sessions to debate several key economic initiatives proposed by the administration of President Javier Milei. Central to the agenda is the reform of the Central Bank (BCRA) Charter, which aims to establish currency value preservation as its sole legal mandate and prohibit the bank from providing advances to the Treasury. The reform also includes a mechanism requiring a two-thirds majority in both chambers to remove the bank's president and directors.
Additionally, the legislature will consider the 'Inocencia Fiscal II' law, which seeks to allow individuals and undivided estates to join a simplified income tax regime without income or wealth caps. Other items on the agenda include the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and the creation of the Regime of Incentives for Relevant Investments (RIIR), which proposes tax benefits for companies making minimum investments of 12 million dollars over two years.
Amidst these legislative efforts, reports indicate significant economic challenges, including high levels of consumer debt and a rise in delinquency rates, particularly among young people. The government is also managing debt through new issuances, including dollar-linked instruments, as the wholesale dollar rate exceeds 1,500 pesos.
