Argentine clubs target defensive reinforcements in transfer market
Several Argentine football clubs are actively pursuing defensive reinforcements during the current transfer window. Racing Club has renewed its interest in Mateo Mendoza, a young defender from Godoy Cruz. The move comes as Racing faces a defensive crisis following injuries and player departures. Negotiations are reportedly exploring options such as a loan with a purchase option or a percentage of the player's rights.
Separately, Independiente is in advanced talks to sign Franco Calderón from Universidad de Chile. The Argentine defender has seen reduced playing time in Chile following coaching changes and squad reinforcements. The proposed deal with Independiente is expected to be a loan agreement with an option to buy, as Calderón seeks a return to Argentine football.
