Argentine Congress debates roadside soybean cultivation proposals
Two legislative proposals are currently being debated in the Argentine Chamber of Deputies' Transport Commission to allow agricultural production on surfaces adjacent to national highways. The initiatives, presented by Javier Sánchez Wrba (PRO) and Agustina Propato (UXP), aim to rehabilitate the practice of roadside planting that was largely suspended in 2008.
According to the Fundación Barbechando, the projects seek to recover approximately 50,000 hectares for agricultural use through specific permits and conditions. The proposals emphasize that planting would not occur on road shoulders or within safety zones, focusing instead on utilizing currently unproductive surfaces while maintaining necessary conditions for road maintenance and traffic circulation.
