Argentine defense lawyers present closing arguments in separate criminal trials

In separate legal proceedings in Argentina, defense attorneys have presented closing arguments in two distinct criminal cases.

In the trial regarding the death of Germán Appella, defense lawyer Julio Razona challenged the validity of breathalyzer tests used against Marcos Aprea. Razona argued that discrepancies between air tests and blood analysis results create scientific uncertainty that should favor the defendant under the principle of 'in dubio pro reo'. The defense specifically requested the removal of the aggravating factor related to driving under the influence, claiming the testing procedures were defective.

In a federal trial involving alleged fraudulent invoicing, Fernando Ayala’s defense has requested his acquittal. Attorney Pablo Vianello argued that Ayala did not profit from the alleged illicit association but instead accumulated tax debts. The prosecution, led by Federico Carniel, has focused on Ayala’s significant change in lifestyle and assets, citing his move from social housing to a luxury apartment in Resistencia as evidence of unexplained wealth.
