Argentine documentary wins best Latin American film at San Sebastián

The Argentine documentary ‘La ilusión de un verano sin fin’ won the award for best Latin American film at the San Sebastián Film Festival. Directed by photographer Alessandra Sanguinetti, the film is the result of 25 years of footage documenting the lives of two cousins, Belinda and Guillermina, from their childhood in the Argentine countryside to their adulthood as mothers.

During the awards ceremony, Sanguinetti described the work as a ‘love letter to the Argentine countryside’ and expressed concerns regarding the preservation of its beauty. She also used her platform to make political statements, criticizing US influence in Argentina and addressing the conflict in Palestine. The film competed in the ‘Horizontes Latinos’ section, which highlights Latin American cinema.
