Argentine filmmakers discuss documentary works on political history and human rights

Argentine filmmaker María Alché recently discussed her new documentary, ‘Pedro en el país’, which explores the life of Pedro Catella. Catella, the son of Peronist militant Alicia Eguren and adopted by leader John William Cooke, participated in Peronist resistance as a child and later fought in Cuba’s Sierra del Escambray. Alché noted that the film was a small-scale production, created by a five-person team, contrasting with her previous co-directed work, ‘Puan’.

In another cinematic development, Tatiana Mazú González is premiering her film essay, ‘Todo documento de civilización’. The project is the result of ten years of research into the case of Luciano Arruga, a young man who was harassed, detained, tortured, and forcibly disappeared by the Buenos Aires provincial police in 2008. The film addresses the ongoing impunity surrounding his death and features testimony from his mother, Mónica Alegre.
