Argentine mayors demand meeting with Milei over economic crisis

During an assembly of the Federation of Argentine Municipalities (FAM), more than 500 mayors from across the country issued a formal demand for an urgent meeting with President Javier Milei. The municipal leaders expressed deep concern regarding the current economic situation and its impact on local communities.

The mayors issued a document requesting the restitution of educational funds and the return of resources previously transferred to provinces and municipalities. They also called for the reactivation of national public works, specifically targeting routes essential to regional economies.

Furthermore, the FAM highlighted the increasing social demands placed on local governments, noting that municipalities are acting as a primary barrier against social deterioration. They requested increased budgetary priority for health, education, security, and disability services, as well as support for small and medium-sized producers through credit lines.
