Argentine football players face transfer hurdles and international moves

In Argentine football, two players face significant career shifts due to contractual and regulatory circumstances.

Lautaro Montenegro, a youth prospect from San Lorenzo, has departed for Al-Wahda in the United Arab Emirates. Following a rejected contract renewal, San Lorenzo agreed to rescind his contract in exchange for a $200,000 compensation fee and the retention of 20% of his economic rights. Montenegro, who made 12 appearances for the club, is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Emirati side.

Meanwhile, midfielder Matías Arriola has announced his departure from Lefu Club to return to El Salado de General Belgrano for family reasons. However, his move is currently blocked by FIFA and COMET regulations. Because Arriola has already played for two different clubs during the current season—Nápoli Argentino and Lefu Club—he is ineligible to register with a third team until January 1, 2027.
