Argentine forestry sector focuses on global competitiveness and industrial investment

During the 80th Anniversary Seminar of the Argentine Forestry Association (AFoA), industry leaders discussed the competitiveness and investment landscape of Argentina's forestry sector.

Pablo Franzini, CEO of Arauco Argentina, emphasized the importance of efficiency and reliability to compete in the global timber market, specifically noting the United States as a major demand center. He highlighted that Argentina possesses the biological assets necessary to compete globally but must overcome bureaucratic and logistical hurdles to succeed.

In a separate development, Central Puerto announced plans to invest US$ 85 million in a sawmill in Corrientes. The company aims to industrialize its 90,000 hectares of forested land in the Mesopotamia region. Executives from the company noted that the current thresholds for the Regime of Incentives for Large Investments (RIGI) may marginalize transformative projects in the forestry sector due to the high US$ 200 million minimum requirement.
