Argentina manufacturing and construction sectors decline in July
Official data from INDEC indicates a significant contraction in Argentina's manufacturing and construction sectors during July 2026. Manufacturing production fell 4.9% year-on-year and 5% compared to June, marking its sharpest monthly decline in 16 months. This industrial downturn has resulted in a cumulative 2.6% drop for the first seven months of the year.
The decline was widespread, affecting 12 of the 16 industrial divisions. The most severe drops occurred in the production of computers, televisions, and communications equipment, which plummeted 49.8% year-on-year, and agricultural machinery, which fell 46.6% due to reduced demand for domestic units.
Construction activity also faced a downturn, with the ISAC index falling 4.5% year-on-year and 4.6% compared to June. Despite these monthly losses, the construction sector maintains a cumulative positive growth of 1.7% for the year 2026. Economic analysts attribute these declines to weakened domestic consumption, increased competition from imported goods, and rising operational costs.
