Bolivia and Argentina face major judicial corruption investigations

In Bolivia, Attorney General Roger Mariaca and departmental prosecutor Alberto Zeballos were detained at Viru Viru International Airport following the release of audio and video attributed to Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset. Marset allegedly claimed to have paid $500,000 for protection and to live in Bolivia. These arrests follow U.S. decisions to revoke visas for several Bolivian officials accused of corruption.

In Argentina, federal judge Sebastián Casanello has processed four individuals, including Sergio Aguirre—a former business partner of Chamber of Deputies President Martín Menem—for the alleged diversion of 247 million pesos from the Osprera health insurance fund. The investigation focuses on direct contracts awarded to Htech Innovation, a company established in April 2024 that allegedly lacked operational capacity. The court has imposed an embargo exceeding 1.46 billion pesos on the accused.

Other regional judicial developments include the conviction of three individuals in the Dominican Republic for falsifying judicial documents to assist defendants in the 'Operación Discovery' case, and the maintenance of preventive detention for Héctor Antonio Lora Cruceta in a fraud investigation involving cancer support foundations.
