Argentine judges reject Milei decree on Supreme Court appointments

The judges argue the decree curtails citizen participation, weakens transparency, and removes guarantees such as gender parity and regional representation, which they say are essential for democratic legitimacy and federal balance.

They contend that eliminating gender criteria and regional quotas undermines constitutional principles of equality, non‑discrimination, and federalism, and represents a regression in the country’s commitment to inclusive and representative justice.
