Rosario economy declines 3.6% amid commercial and industrial contraction

The economy of Rosario has experienced a cumulative decline of 3.6% during the first seven months of 2026. This downturn is driven by weakened consumption, reduced commercial billing, and industrial contraction.

The commercial sector, which accounts for approximately 38% of the city's surveyed economic activity, is among the hardest hit, recording a 10.3% year-on-year drop in real billing. Vehicle sales and repairs have seen a more significant decline of 18.7%.

Industrial activity also shows significant difficulties, with a 13.8% year-on-year contraction. Notable decreases occurred in the manufacturing of vehicles and transport equipment (-45.9%), electronic and electrical equipment (-27.8%), and textiles (-26.6%).

In contrast, the construction sector has shown growth, with a cumulative increase of 31% during the same period. Private services have maintained a cumulative growth of 2.3%, though recent interannual data shows a deceleration of 3.7%.
