Argentine labor unions organize festivals to support workers and mark political dates
Argentine labor organizations are organizing distinct events to mark upcoming dates and support ongoing industrial disputes. The CTA Autónoma participated in the ‘Festival del Metal Argentino’ in Pilar, an initiative designed to support workers at the FATE tire factory following mass layoffs and the facility's closure. The event, which lasted over 11 hours, collected non-perishable food donations to sustain the workers' struggle.
Oscar De Isasi, General Secretary of the CTA Autónoma Buenos Aires, used the event to criticize the administration of Javier Milei, calling for unity in the streets to oppose current economic policies. He also called for participation in the upcoming national university march.
Separately, the CGT has announced its own celebration for October 17, scheduled for October 16. The central labor union will hold a formal act at its Azopardo headquarters followed by the ‘Fuerza Festival’ in Chacarita, featuring rock, cumbia, and rap. This independent celebration highlights a fragmentation within the political and labor movement, as the CGT has opted not to join other Peronist-led events.
