Argentine lawmakers demand explanations from Defense Minister Carlos Presti
Argentine opposition lawmakers are demanding explanations from Defense Minister Carlos Presti regarding recent restructuring plans within the nation's military and defense sectors.
Deputy Agustín Rossi has submitted a resolution project to summon Presti to Congress to discuss ‘Plan Dédalo’. While the Argentine Navy describes the plan as a five-year modernization and restructuring program for Naval Aviation, Rossi argues it effectively leads to the ‘deactivation of the Punta Indio Base’. He warned that the reduction in activities and personnel transfers could harm regional employment and operational capabilities.
Simultaneously, Deputy Agustina Propato has requested a formal report on the financial and patrimonial status of the Argentine Aircraft Factory (FADEA). Propato described the situation at the state-owned plant as ‘critical’, citing production paralysis, a shrinking technical structure, and insufficient budget allocations. She accused the administration of a ‘deliberate emptying’ of the facility, suggesting these measures may be intended to facilitate future privatization or liquidation.
