Argentine legislators face scrutiny over gender politics and immunity requests

In Argentina, two separate legislative developments are drawing attention. National Deputy Adrián Brizuela of La Libertad Avanza has voiced strong opposition to gender feminism, describing it as a “sect” while defending a bill currently in the Senate regarding false accusations. Brizuela argued that false reports are a significant issue driven by various interests and stated he is not intimidated by potential social media backlash.

In San Luis, legal counsel for Deputy Joaquín Beltrán has challenged a request to strip his client of legislative immunity. The request follows the “Molino Fénix” investigation, which involves alleged irregular maneuvers causing an estimated $900 million in damages to the public administration between 2020 and 2023. Defense attorney Roberto Gabriel Bracco argued the request is “improper” because no formal accusation has been filed against Beltrán, as the case remains in the preparatory investigation stage.
