Argentine legislators propose new childhood and pediatric health laws

Legislators in Argentina are introducing new provincial initiatives focused on childhood welfare and pediatric healthcare.

In Santa Fe, Lionella Cattalini presented an Early Childhood Law project designed to guarantee rights and services from gestation until age five. Cattalini met with UNICEF Argentina representatives to exchange expertise on sustainable legislation and integrate evidence-based policies to address early inequalities.

In Chaco, Deputy Katia Blanc introduced Bill No. 1806, which proposes the creation of a Comprehensive Health Care Plan for Children and Adolescents. The project suggests that if the Primary, Open, Simultaneous, and Mandatory (PASO) elections are suspended, the resulting fiscal savings should be redirected to a provincial fund. This fund would specifically support the Dr. Avelino Lorenzo Castelán Pediatric Hospital to ensure the supply of critical medical inputs and the continuity of surgical and emergency services.
