Argentine legislators propose new labor and welfare laws

In Argentina, two separate provincial legislative initiatives have been introduced to address specific labor and welfare concerns.

In Neuquén, Deputy Mónica Guanque has proposed a law to establish a Provincial Regime for the Reduction and Adaptation of the Working Day. This project targets state employees in the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches who are caregivers for persons with disabilities. The proposal allows for a reduction of up to 25% of the standard working hours without reducing basic salaries, bonuses, or social security contributions. The goal is to allow caregivers to better manage medical treatments, therapies, and daily assistance requirements.

In Santa Fe, Deputy Sergio Rojas has introduced a bill aimed at improving the working conditions and mental health of the Police and Penitentiary Service. The project seeks to create a formal institutional channel for dialogue between security personnel and the Executive Branch. The initiative focuses on five pillars, including treating personnel welfare as a public policy and ensuring democratic representation within the forces, while explicitly stating that it does not aim to create unions or disrupt the existing chain of command.
