Argentine legislators seek to repair diplomatic ties with Brazil

A delegation of Argentine opposition legislators concluded a series of diplomatic meetings in Brasilia aimed at repairing bilateral relations with Brazil. The mission follows tensions caused by personal insults from President Javier Milei toward President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The delegation, representing various political blocs including Unión por la Patria and Encuentro Federal, met with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and advisor Celso Amorim. Brazilian officials expressed a desire to avoid further escalation and maintain diplomatic dialogue. Discussions also covered strategic agreements regarding peaceful nuclear development and energy policies.

Legislators highlighted the economic importance of the relationship, noting that Brazil is a primary buyer of Argentine products such as olive oil, olives, and wine, which are vital for regional employment. Additionally, the group addressed delays in infrastructure projects, specifically mentioning Brazilian-funded bridge projects that are currently awaiting technical permits from the Argentine Foreign Ministry.
