Argentine legislators seek U.S. market access for citrus exports

Argentine legislators Guillermo Michel and Adán Bahl have formally requested updated information from Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno regarding the opening of the United States market to Argentine citrus products. The request emphasizes the need for bilateral trade agreements to generate concrete opportunities for domestic producers and employment.

Sector estimates suggest that gaining access to the U.S. market could allow for the annual export of approximately 20,000 tons of citrus, valued at over US$ 20 million. Legislators noted that because Argentine citrus would enter the U.S. during the off-season, it would complement rather than compete directly with local American production.

The push for market access follows Argentina's progress on other bilateral commitments involving intellectual property and vehicle imports. The legislators are seeking clarity on the specific requirements and timelines remaining to finalize these trade permissions to support regional economies, particularly in provinces like Entre Ríos.
