Argentine media faces labor protests and shifting ratings
The Argentine media landscape is experiencing significant shifts in both labor relations and audience consumption. The union SATSAID has launched protests against major streaming platforms, including Neura and Olga, alleging “labor fraud.” The union argues that technical and production staff within these digital spaces should be formally registered under existing audiovisual collective bargaining agreements.
In terms of audience metrics, traditional television continues to maintain a massive scale compared to streaming. The finale of the reality show “Gran Hermano Generación Dorada” on Telefe reached a peak of 13.3 rating points, representing over 1.3 million simultaneous viewers in the AMBA region. While Telefe’s digital streams saw peaks of 320,000 devices, native streaming channels like Luzu and Olga typically stabilize between 45,000 and 75,000 simultaneous viewers.
Rating competitions remain intense between major broadcasters. Telefe’s “Pasapalabra” recently led the Sunday prime time with 4.8 points, narrowly beating Canal Trece’s “CineTrece,” which recorded 4.1 points. Additionally, Telefe’s afternoon programming saw a boost following the appearance of Sol Abraham, the winner of the recent Gran Hermano season.
